A devotional to my sons:
“Before they call I will answer; while they are still speaking I will hear.”
- Isaiah 65:24
Boys, imagine texting me with a problem, and before you even hit send, I’ve already solved it. Before your question even finishes loading, the answer’s already on its way. I’m not this good, but our Father in heaven is, and this is exactly what He promises here.
God is already moving. Think about that. Right now, (or in a decade when you discover this, and I pray that you don’t find it embarrassing) you’re reading this, God already knows what you’re going to pray about tomorrow. He knows the test you’re worried about next week. He knows the friendship struggle that’s going to hit next month. And here’s the wild part, He’s already working on the answer.
This doesn’t mean God is a cosmic vending machine where we get whatever we want instantly. It means something better: God cares so deeply about you that He’s already paying attention. He’s not scrambling to keep up with your life. He’s not caught off guard. He’s already there, in your future, preparing the way.
When you feel unheard, remember this: God heard you before you spoke. When you’re in the middle of explaining your problem to Him, He’s already listening, not like someone waiting for you to finish, but like someone who already understands completely.
I pray that this will change how you pray. You’re not trying to get God’s attention or convince Him to care. You’re talking to a Father who’s already leaning in, who’s already moved by your need, who’s already at work, something I could never achieve but He can.
So today: What’s weighing on you? Tell Him. Not because He doesn’t know, but because He wants you to trust Him with it. He’s already answered. He’s already listening.
You’re not alone in this. Ever.
Love, Dad
Father, thank you for completing my sentences. Thank you for loving me so unconditionally, in a way that is only possible for you. Thank you for never tiring as you wait for us to turn to you, and thank you for already working on our ask before we even know what we want. Thank you for saying no when we don’t need it, and thank you for knowing better and not leaving us to our own wisdom. Amen
